Chess opening courses
Chessmites teaches chess openings the way they are actually played. There are more than 20 courses, as White and as Black, from the Italian Game and the London System to the Sicilian, the Caro-Kann and the King's Indian. Each course is built from real games on Lichess where the two players averaged 1200 to 1499, so the lines you learn are the ones opponents at that level really play.
Every move in every line is checked by the Stockfish chess engine, so a line may not be the engine's first choice, but it is never a mistake. Each line ends in a position you know how to play: you have won something, the opening is over and you have a plan, or both sides have made twelve moves.
You learn by making the moves yourself. First the app guides you and says why each move is played; then the instructions stop and you play from memory. Three clean runs and the line is yours, and it comes back for a quick review before you would forget it.
The first line of every course is free, with no account needed. A free account keeps your progress on any device, and a subscription unlocks every line of every course, plus Scan a game and Kai's coaching, for you and up to 4 children. Chessmites also lists Australian chess tournament dates and has an ACF rating lookup.
